Janelle Stelson Challenges Scott Perry Again for Pennsylvania’s 10th District
Janelle Stelson, a former Emmy-award-winning TV anchor, has stepped away from her 30-year career to pursue a political path. Stelson is running for Pennsylvania’s 10th Congressional District, setting her sights on incumbent Rep. Scott Perry, a known ally of former President Donald Trump.
In the 2024 election, Stelson narrowly missed unseating Perry, capturing 49.2% of the vote compared to Perry’s 50.9%. Stelson aims to address the economic challenges her constituents face, which she attributes to tariff policies implemented during the Trump administration.
Stelson emphasizes the struggles Pennsylvanians face due to rising costs of living, including gas, groceries, and housing. She states, “People are always like, ‘Janelle, what do you care about?’ Well, what I care about is to show you that I’m 180 degrees from Scott Perry.”
Many voters have raised concerns about Perry’s involvement in Trump’s 2020 election denial efforts. The New York Times labeled Perry a “ringleader” in these activities, citing text messages that reveal discussions between Perry and Republican leaders regarding plans to promote unfounded claims of election fraud.
Stelson criticizes Perry’s accessibility, pointing out that he has not held a town hall meeting since 2019 and even locked constituents out of his office earlier this year when they attempted to deliver letters.
She positions herself as a more accessible representative, encouraging constituents to share their concerns. Stelson criticizes Perry for his support of Trump’s policies, including voting for the “Big Beautiful Bill,” which she claims has resulted in millions of Americans losing their Medicaid, including 310,000 Pennsylvanians.
Furthermore, Stelson highlights Perry’s opposition to extending federal subsidies for the Affordable Care Act, which she argues has led to soaring health insurance premiums. “That’s really a problem and voters tell me every day that they can’t handle a 200% or 300% increase in their health care costs,” she said.
Stelson advocates for expanding federal negotiations to reduce prescription drug prices and removing age restrictions on these drugs. She also notes the struggles of small business owners due to tariff taxes, sharing the story of Angel Fox, a laundromat owner in Harrisburg, who has had to adapt her business practices to stay afloat.
In contrast, Perry has blamed Democrats for ignoring inflation, despite the Republican party’s control of the federal government. Stelson also criticizes Perry’s support for Trump’s foreign policies, including military actions and financial decisions, which she believes are draining taxpayer resources.
Stelson expresses concerns about national safety and the potential for terrorist attacks, emphasizing the need for bipartisan leadership that addresses these issues rather than exacerbating them. She calls for an end to partisan conflicts, stating, “Bickering is ridiculous. People want things to be done.”
As she gears up for the Democratic primary election on May 19, where she will face Justin Douglas, Stelson presents her agenda to combat corruption in Washington, DC:
- Limit Congress members to serving only 12 years.
- Set an age limit for members of Congress.
- Release the full Epstein files.
- Cut first-class flights and other luxury perks for Congress members.
- Curb the president’s pardoning power.
- Ban members of Congress and their immediate families from trading individual stocks while in office.
- Prohibit elected officials and executive branch employees from betting in prediction markets.
- Pass a constitutional amendment to reverse the Supreme Court’s decision in Citizens United v. FEC.
