Prince Harry Steps Down from African Parks Board
Prince Harry has announced his departure as a trustee from African Parks, a conservation-focused nonprofit that collaborates with governments across 13 African nations, including Chad and Zimbabwe. This decision was confirmed by a spokesperson for the prince on Monday.
The announcement follows Harry’s recent declaration that he, along with his family, will be returning to the United Kingdom to reside. Harry has contributed a decade of service to the organization before stepping down from the board of trustees.
A statement from African Parks, dated August 19, described the prince’s departure as part of a broader “governance refresh.” Notably, the board will see the addition of a Kenyan Supreme Court justice and the president of AGRA, an organization aiding small-scale African farmers. These changes are set to be implemented on September 30.
The decision comes in the wake of a call from Survival International, an Indigenous rights group, urging Harry to resign due to alleged human rights violations by rangers associated with African Parks. Earlier, in March 2025, Harry also resigned from Sentebale, a charity he co-founded to address poverty and AIDS in Southern Africa, following a breakdown in relations with the organization’s chair.
Vas Narasimhan, the chair of the African Parks board, expressed gratitude for Harry’s contributions, stating, “We extend our thanks to all the members of the Board who generously volunteer their time in support of our conservation mission — and particularly to The Duke of Sussex, for a decade of committed service to African Parks.”
Both Harry and his wife, Meghan, have previously stepped back from their official royal duties upon relocating to the United States. They are anticipated to live in a non-royal residence outside of London and do not plan to resume royal responsibilities.
