Stacy Garrity’s Facebook Activity Sparks Controversy

Recent revelations from Facebook posts have brought Pennsylvania Treasurer Stacy Garrity into the spotlight, highlighting her comments on the 2020 election’s legitimacy and her support for those involved in the January 6 Capitol riots. These posts reveal a more profound sympathy for the rioters than previously understood, as Garrity, now a leading Republican candidate for governor, engaged with supporters of the January 6 events.

The rioters, who were largely supporters of President Donald Trump, aimed to prevent the certification of the 2020 presidential election, claiming it was stolen through widespread fraud. During the Capitol breach, these individuals engaged in destructive acts, including breaking windows, assaulting police officers, and vandalizing the premises.

Amid this turmoil, a statement condemning the violence and offering prayers for law enforcement was posted on Garrity’s 2020 campaign Facebook page. Although the post appeared to be in her voice, metadata shows it was actually published by a consultant.

Following this post, several commenters supported the rioters, and Garrity responded from her personal account, referring to them as “patriots” and mentioning her attendance at a protest against the election certification the previous day.

“I am proud of our Patriots,” Garrity stated. “Just want to make sure our patriots, law enforcement, and soldiers are safe. I went to Harrisburg yesterday and spoke at the vets rally against what happened in PA in November.”

In response to another commenter worried about her becoming “part of the swamp,” Garrity affirmed, “I am not going to become part of the swamp! I spoke at the rally in Harrisburg yesterday condemning the election and lack of integrity. Just want to make sure that law enforcement and soldiers and our patriots don’t get hurt.”

Garrity also expressed agreement with a commenter who attributed the riot to external influences.

Garrity has consistently supported Trump’s allegations of election fraud. Her campaign joined a Trump effort to challenge over 2,000 mail-in ballots in Bucks County, Pennsylvania, though the courts rejected these petitions.

In May 2022, Garrity appeared with Trump at a rally, echoing his claims about the 2020 election. Trump quoted her saying, “you lost [in 2020] and it’s not possible,” which she reiterated on stage.

Trump’s fraud claims have particularly focused on Philadelphia, alleging illegal voting without evidence. Garrity backed these allegations in an August 2024 radio interview, stating, “I think that there’s probably always been fraud in Philadelphia, and there always will be fraud in Philadelphia. It’s just a matter of what, to what degree.”

Despite multiple lawsuits and investigations affirming the fairness of the 2020 election and President Joe Biden’s victory by over 80,000 votes in Pennsylvania, these assertions persist.

Following his second term’s start, Trump pardoned all January 6 rioters and sought to expunge some records. In January 2025, Garrity told the Philadelphia Inquirer she had no opinion on these pardons.

Garrity is currently running against Democratic Governor Josh Shapiro, who seeks reelection.
