Kennedy Center Removes Trump References Following Court Ruling

In a recent development, the Kennedy Center in Washington is removing mentions of former President Donald Trump a week after a federal judge determined that his name was added without legal grounds. This decision comes after a ruling on May 29, which found that the addition was illegal and prohibited the planned renovations that were set for July.

Roma Daravi, the vice president of public relations at the Kennedy Center, mentioned in a statement to the Associated Press, “We are complying with the court’s order while evaluating all legal options to preserve this revitalization and recognize President Trump’s leadership.”

In a memo addressed to staff from the Kennedy Center’s Office of General Counsel, it was stated that all official documents, including email signatures and letterhead, must use the name “The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts” or simply “Kennedy Center.” The memo stipulated a deadline of June 12 for these adjustments.

The court ruling not only addressed the name issue but also stopped the administration from proceeding with major renovations that would have temporarily closed the center. In response to this, Trump announced his intention to step back from the renovations and return control of the center to Congress. This marks a reversion to the institution’s original designation before Trump’s presidency.

The changes at the Kennedy Center illustrate a significant shift in its leadership and management, reflecting compliance with the legal ruling and an attempt to maintain its historical identity.
