Renowned martial arts grandmaster and action star Chuck Norris, famed for his roles in the television series “Walker, Texas Ranger,” has passed away at the age of 86. Norris’s family confirmed his sudden death on Thursday, stating he was “at peace” and surrounded by family.

Norris’s career in martial arts was marked by significant achievements, including six titles as the undefeated World Professional Middleweight Karate champion. He established the United Fighting Arts Federation, awarding over 3,300 black belts globally. Black Belt magazine recognized his mastery with a 10th-degree black belt, the pinnacle of martial arts honors.

Born Carlos Ray Norris on March 10, 1940, in Ryan, Oklahoma, Norris grew up in a modest household. At 12, his family relocated to Torrance, California. After completing high school in 1958, Norris joined the U.S. Air Force, where he began his journey in martial arts, mastering judo and Tang Soo Do during a deployment in Korea.

After his honorable discharge in 1962, Norris worked briefly as a file clerk and applied to become a police officer. While on the waitlist, he launched a martial arts studio that expanded into a chain, teaching stars such as Bob Barker and Steve McQueen, who encouraged Norris’s move into acting.

Career in Film and Television

Norris debuted in the 1968 film “The Wrecking Crew” and famously appeared opposite Bruce Lee in the 1972 classic “Return of the Dragon.” His filmography includes over 20 films, including “Missing in Action” and “The Delta Force.” He expressed a desire to portray a heroic image, stating, “I wanted to project a certain image on the screen of a hero.”

In 1993, he starred in “Walker, Texas Ranger,” which ran for nine seasons. The series earned Norris the honorary title of Texas Ranger from then-Gov. Rick Perry and later an honorary Texan designation from the Texas Senate.

In recent years, Norris made sporadic acting appearances, including in the 2004 comedy “Dodgeball” and 2012’s “The Expendables 2.” He is slated to appear in upcoming films like “Zombie Plane.”

The Chuck Norris Phenomenon

Norris’s tough-guy persona inspired the viral “Chuck Norris Facts,” featuring hyperbolic statements such as, “Chuck Norris had a staring contest with the sun — and won.” Embracing the humor, Norris compiled “The Official Chuck Norris Fact Book,” which combined these “facts” with true stories and life principles.

A vocal supporter of gun rights and Christian values, Norris endorsed several political candidates, including Donald Trump in 2016. He is survived by five children and recently celebrated his birthday with a post on social media stating, “I don’t age. I level up.”
