Trinidad Chambliss Plans a Quiet Retreat After Intense Football Season

Mississippi quarterback Trinidad Chambliss, who has been under the intense scrutiny of college football’s media for the past eight months, is looking forward to taking a step back. The sixth-year senior expressed his excitement about his summer plans following the conclusion of spring practice.

Chambliss wrapped up the spring session with a weekend fan meet-and-greet and a series of closed spring drills. He intends to return to Grand Rapids, Michigan, his childhood hometown, where he will participate in school functions and share his inspiring journey from Division II Ferris State to playing for Ole Miss.

Ole Miss head coach Pete Golding has advised all players to take a break from football post-spring practices and exams. Golding emphasized the importance of a mental reset, saying, “I do think it’s really important for them to get away from it. They need a reset.”

Chambliss, who stepped into the spotlight after Ole Miss QB Austin Simmons was injured, knows the value of a break. He led the Rebels to a 41-35 victory over Arkansas in his debut and ended the season with over 3,900 yards and 30 touchdowns. The team finished 13-2, securing the No. 4 spot in the final Associated Press Top 25, with notable wins against ranked teams like Tulane and Georgia.

Chambliss’s success has also translated into significant NIL endorsements, including a deal with AT&T, estimated at $1.5 million. His journey took another positive turn with a legal victory granting him an additional year of eligibility, a development that was celebrated by Ole Miss fans.

Despite the challenges of the legal battle, Chambliss decided to remain at Ole Miss, stating, “You know, when I visited Oxford from Ferris State, I really liked it here and wasn’t promised anything about being the quarterback.” His family’s approval of Oxford also influenced his decision to stay, especially after the appointment of Pete Golding as head coach.

During his break, the Ole Miss media department plans to launch a Heisman Trophy campaign for Chambliss, who finished eighth in last year’s voting. He joins preseason Heisman favorites like Arch Manning and C.J. Carr. Ole Miss has a history of strong Heisman contenders, including Archie and Eli Manning, both of whom were top-five finishers.

The Rebels have a tradition of producing NFL quarterbacks, with recent success stories such as Jaxson Dart, a 2025 first-round pick by the New York Giants.
