Rep. Mike Lawler’s Campaign Spending Under Scrutiny

New York Representative Mike Lawler continues to attract attention for his campaign spending habits, as revealed in a recent Daily Mail report. The report, based on Federal Elections Commission (FEC) filings, highlights significant expenditures on luxury services.

Last year, Lawler reportedly spent over $150,000 on various high-end expenses, including $11,000 on personal chauffeurs and $700 for a stay at a beachfront Ritz-Carlton in Florida. Although lawmakers are permitted to use campaign funds for travel, these expenses must be justified as reasonable and necessary.

Continuing this trend, new FEC filings from 2026 show that Lawler’s campaign expended over $4,800 on a January trip to West Palm Beach, FL. This included $3,511 for limousine services and $1,355 at a Hilton hotel. Notably, West Palm Beach offers a city-run car service similar to Uber, free of charge.

In the same month, Lawler’s campaign spent more than $600 at a pizza restaurant in Jefferson Valley, NY, labeling it as “fundraiser expenses.”

Another trip to Florida in March for a fundraiser at the St. Regis Hotel in Longboat Key saw the campaign spending $807 on car services. Although the area provides a community car service charging between $3 to $6 per ride, this option was not utilized.

These expenditures come at a time when economic issues, including the impact of the war in Iran and former President Donald Trump’s tariff policies, are pressing concerns for voters. Recent surges in gas prices have contributed to inflation reaching its highest level in two years.

As Lawler campaigns for a third term in the House, he is seen as one of the most vulnerable Republican incumbents in the upcoming elections.
