KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — A tense moment unfolded during the Big 12 Tournament on Thursday when UCF’s John Bol, a towering 7-foot-2 sophomore from South Sudan, collapsed clutching his chest. The incident occurred during the second half of the matchup against Arizona, necessitating assistance to get him to the locker room.

While the precise cause of Bol’s distress remains undetermined, he was observed struggling to breathe while seated on the bench prior to his re-entry into the game. A foul stoppage saw him fall to the floor in a corner of the court, prompting immediate attention from the UCF staff. After several minutes, he was helped to his feet and guided, albeit unsteadily, to the locker room.

In a prior encounter, Bol had shown his prowess by posting 13 points and securing eight rebounds over 31 minutes in an overtime victory against Cincinnati in the tournament’s second round on Wednesday. In the contest against Arizona, he contributed five points and collected six rebounds in 17 minutes before his early exit with approximately 12 minutes remaining on the clock.

Bol transferred to UCF after spending his freshman season at Ole Miss. Over the current season, he averages six points and 5.5 rebounds per game.
