Trump Participates in Pre-Debate Prayer Call, Criticizes Kamala Harris
Paula White, former spiritual advisor in the Trump administration, hosted a pre-debate prayer call on Monday night featuring Donald Trump. During the call, Trump accused Vice President Kamala Harris of wanting to make Christians “second-class citizens.”
The event was organized by White’s National Faith Advisory Board along with Intercessors for America. According to the organizers, tens of thousands of religious leaders joined the call.
White lauded Trump, describing him as “a great man of God.” Trump then delivered a brief version of his campaign speech, asserting that “we’re in a nation that’s failing right now” and labeling the upcoming election as the most critical in American history. He urged conservative Christians to vote in large numbers, calling this election the country’s “last chance.”
In what appeared to be a preview of his debate tactics, Trump referred to Harris as “Comrade Kamala” and accused her of overseeing “a wave of anti-Christian bigotry and persecution unlike anything our nation has ever seen.” He claimed that if Harris were to become president, she would escalate what he described as the left’s “war on Christianity,” reducing Christians to “second-class citizens.” Trump added that, if elected, he would form a task force to combat anti-Christian bias and unite the country “as one nation under God.”
Trump also made the unsubstantiated claim that Harris supports “executing the baby after birth” in the context of abortion. He further warned that she aims to grant citizenship to “millions of criminal illegal aliens,” which he alleged would “destroy the voting power of Christian conservatives forever.”
Trump took pride in his judicial appointments, stating, “I transformed the federal judiciary with nearly 300 new judges, including three great Supreme Court justices.” While Trump appointees have indeed been impactful, sources like Right Wing Watch and People For the American Way argue that the changes have not been beneficial.
White prayed for Trump to have divine wisdom during the debate, asking God to neutralize any “demonic trap” or “demonic assignment” against him. White has previously criticized Trump’s political opponents in similar terms.
Other religious figures also prayed for Trump. Dave Kubal from Intercessors for America, Pastor Jentezen Franklin, Hispanic evangelical leader Samuel Rodriguez, and Detroit pastor Lorenzo Sewell, who has hosted Trump at his church, all took part.
Franklin likened Trump to biblical King David and urged pastors to speak about the election and encourage voter registration in their congregations. “If America is going to be destroyed, it will be destroyed by the silence of the pulpit,” he stated.
Rodriguez prayed for the debate moderators to foster a conversation marked by civility and truth. He asked God to remind viewers that “God is not done with America and America is not done with God” through the Holy Spirit’s anointing of Trump.
Sewell prayed for Trump to be protected from “every fiery dart” and for him to receive prophetic insights during the debate. He prayed that Trump’s words would both cut and heal as needed, and that viewers would recognize Trump’s divine anointing to “break the shackles that have bound our country.”
White concluded by urging participants to engage in six-hour prayer shifts over the next 24 hours and to fast on Tuesday. She expressed gratitude to Trump for the opportunity to pray over him, saying, “I believe that an army is rising up and standing with you, with this nation, and with God.”
Jenny Korn from the National Faith Advisory Board wrapped up the call by highlighting the ongoing My Faith Matters tour, which has been conducted in several states and will be in Wisconsin on Sept. 17.
Intercessors for America released their own prayer points for the debate, mainly focused on seeking divine favor for the truthful and confounding liars.
