In an era where online content is shaped by algorithms and driven by engagement, users are being encouraged to take greater control of their social media experience—and to think critically before resharing posts.

Many people feel overwhelmed by conflicting information online and uncertain about what content they can trust. Social media platforms often promote content based on popularity, not accuracy. This opens the door for misleading narratives, emotionally manipulative posts, and influence from sources that don’t always have the public’s best interest in mind.

One simple step is to evaluate who you follow. If there’s no real-world connection—no in-person interaction or familiarity—it may be worth reconsidering. Not all accounts are genuine, and some may be designed to spread disinformation or provoke outrage.

Users are also encouraged to change how their feed is structured. On many platforms, switching from the default “For You” feed to the “Following” feed ensures that posts come only from accounts the user has intentionally chosen. This reduces algorithmic influence and helps people stay focused on content they care about.

Caution is also recommended when it comes to resharing posts. Before hitting share, it’s helpful to consider whether the source is trustworthy and whether the message aligns with one’s values. A good practice is to step away for a short period—about 30 minutes—and revisit the post with a clear mind before deciding to share it.

These small, intentional choices can help reduce the spread of misinformation, limit exposure to emotionally charged content, and create a healthier online environment for everyone.
