US strikes set Iran back by months: early report

U.S. Intelligence Report Raises Questions on Iran’s Nuclear Program After Strikes

A recent assessment by U.S. intelligence indicates that the impact of recent military strikes on Iran’s nuclear capabilities was less significant than initially claimed. According to sources familiar with the report, which remains confidential, the strikes may have only delayed Iran’s nuclear program by a few months. The individuals, who spoke under the condition of anonymity, were not authorized to discuss the report publicly.

This assessment challenges the statements made by U.S. President Donald Trump, who asserted that Iran’s nuclear program was “completely and fully obliterated” due to the strikes. Despite significant damage to Iran’s nuclear infrastructure, the report by the Defense Intelligence Agency revealed that Iran managed to relocate some of its highly enriched uranium before the attacks, and its centrifuges were largely unaffected.

Steve Witkoff, Trump’s special envoy to the Middle East, maintained that the U.S. airstrikes “achieved their objectives,” while the White House dismissed the intelligence report as “flat-out wrong.”

Key Developments in the Iran-Israel Conflict

Uncertain Ceasefire Terms: President Trump announced a ceasefire between Iran and Israel, claiming it was “in effect.” However, details of the agreement remain undisclosed, with no clear concessions from either side.

Continued Tensions: Following allegations by Israel that Iran violated the truce by launching missiles, which Iran denied, President Trump expressed his frustration at both nations. He remarked at the White House, using an expletive, that he was “not happy” with Israel, noting the prolonged conflict between the two countries.

Casualty Reports: In the 12-day conflict, Israeli emergency services reported 28 fatalities in Israel. Meanwhile, Human Rights Activists based in Washington reported at least 974 deaths in Iran.

Background of the Conflict: The situation escalated when Israel launched a surprise attack on Iranian sites on June 13, aiming to prevent an alleged imminent nuclear threat. This led to a series of retaliatory strikes between the nations. On June 22, the U.S. military targeted Iran’s nuclear facilities, despite intelligence assessments suggesting Iran was not actively building a nuclear weapon.
