Trump on Pardoning Jan. 6 Rioters
During a recent panel at the National Association of Black Journalists, former President Donald Trump was questioned about his stance on pardoning individuals involved in the Jan. 6 Capitol riot. The interviewer asked, “My question is on those rioters who assaulted officers. Would you pardon those people?”
“Oh, absolutely, I would. If they’re innocent, I would pardon them,” Trump responded.
Over 140 police officers were injured during the Jan. 6 attack, which also resulted in more than $2.8 million in damages to the Capitol building and its grounds.
To date, more than 1,400 individuals have been charged in relation to the events of Jan. 6, 2021. Prosecutors have achieved over 1,000 convictions, with 718 people pleading guilty, including 213 who admitted to felony charges. Numerous cases are still awaiting resolution.
