Stephon Castle’s Historic Performance Leads Spurs to Victory

In a remarkable display of athletic prowess, San Antonio Spurs guard Stephon Castle delivered a 40-point triple-double, marking the first of his NBA career. The 21-year-old guard achieved this milestone during the Spurs’ commanding 138-125 win against the Dallas Mavericks.

Castle’s performance was highlighted by a powerful right-handed dunk after a missed shot rebounded perfectly to him, securing his final two points of the game. His All-Star teammate, Victor Wembanyama, couldn’t help but acknowledge Castle’s awareness of his scoring accomplishment, stating with a laugh, “You could tell he knew. It was crazy.”

Castle’s 40-point, 12-rebound, and 12-assist game contributed to the Spurs’ fourth consecutive win. “Not having to force it,” Castle commented on surpassing his previous career-high of 33 points, “I feel like it just came within the game.”

At such a young age, Castle has become the youngest player in NBA history to achieve a 40-point triple-double, sharing company with Wilt Chamberlain by shooting 75% from the field.

The dynamic guard’s play was exemplified in the fourth quarter when he sprinted through the lane to outjump teammate Dylan Harper for a rebound, resulting in an emphatic putback dunk. Reflecting on the moment, Castle said, “The ball came off perfect, so it felt good. But I mean, more importantly, it felt good to do that knowing we were going to get to win as well.”

The Spurs, now holding a 36-16 record, have won nine of their last 12 games, maintaining the second position in the Western Conference standings, trailing Oklahoma City by 3.5 games.

Both Castle and Wembanyama, the NBA’s past two Rookie of the Year winners, are pivotal to the Spurs’ impressive start, aiming to end a six-season playoff absence. Wembanyama, a leading MVP candidate, remarked, “He’s already one of the best players in the league, so thank God there’s still room to improve.”

Castle’s versatile skills have shown growth, with improvements across key stats such as scoring, assists, and rebounds. Notably, he is often tasked with defending the opponent’s top scorer, showcasing his defensive capabilities.

Reflecting on Castle’s unstoppable performance, Mavericks coach Jason Kidd noted, “He was aggressive. He had an incredible game.” Castle’s field goal accuracy was evident as he successfully made his first 10 attempts, finishing 15 for 19 from the field, including 3 for 5 from beyond the arc.

Castle’s first triple-double was achieved on November 12, 2025, against the Golden State Warriors, with 23 points, 10 rebounds, and 10 assists, though the Spurs fell short in that match.

Joining the ranks of Hall of Famer David Robinson, Castle is now the only other San Antonio player to record a 40-point triple-double. Robinson, a regular courtside spectator, watched Castle’s remarkable performance unfold.

After the game, Castle led the team in a new victory tradition, beating the drum for the fans. It was his first time taking on this role, and he humbly noted, “I kind of went based off the last couple I’ve seen. So, I thought I did decent.” Wembanyama humorously suggested Castle could still improve his drumming skills, adding, “He has some range to get better, for sure.”
