Mississippi Supreme Court Panel Ruling Favors Ole Miss Quarterback

The Mississippi Supreme Court’s three-judge panel has rejected the NCAA’s appeal, offering a potential pathway for Ole Miss quarterback Trinidad Chambliss to participate in the upcoming season. However, this is not the final decision from the state’s Supreme Court, and the NCAA may still seek another hearing.

The NCAA has yet to comment on the recent decision. This ruling marks another success in court for Chambliss. On February 12, a Mississippi judge issued a preliminary injunction allowing Chambliss to be eligible to play, countering the NCAA’s earlier denial of his waiver request on January 9. The NCAA’s Athletics Eligibility Subcommittee upheld this denial on February 4, despite Chambliss’ appeal.

Chambliss, who has been in college for five years, has only been healthy enough to compete in three seasons. He began his collegiate career at Ferris State in 2021, redshirting his first year and sitting out in 2022 due to medical issues.

Afterward, he played two additional seasons with the Division II Ferris State Bulldogs, leading them to a national championship before transferring to Ole Miss ahead of the last season.

In his time at Ole Miss, Chambliss completed 294 of 445 passes (66.1%) for 3,937 yards, scoring 22 touchdowns and throwing just three interceptions. He also rushed for 527 yards, adding eight touchdowns to his record. His efforts contributed to Ole Miss achieving a record-setting 13-2 season, including two victories in their inaugural College Football Playoff appearance. Their journey ended with a 31-27 loss to Miami in the semifinal on January 8.
