Daniil Medvedev Claims 23rd ATP Title as Tallon Griekspoor Withdraws from Dubai Final

In a turn of events at the Dubai Championships, Daniil Medvedev secured his 23rd ATP singles title when Tallon Griekspoor was unable to compete in the final due to an injury. The Dutch player sustained a left hamstring injury during his semifinal match against Andrey Rublev on Friday.

Despite his efforts to recover, Griekspoor was unable to participate in the final. “I have been better that’s for sure,” he remarked during the trophy ceremony. He elaborated by stating, “I went to the hospital this morning and had a couple of scans, which showed something serious. It kept me from coming on court tonight and will keep me from the court in the coming weeks.”

Medvedev’s victory in Dubai marks his second title win this year, the first being in Brisbane in January. Remarkably, this is his second triumph in Dubai, having previously won in 2023, making it the first time he has captured the same tournament title twice.

Commenting on the unique situation, Medvedev said, “That’s what is crazy about it. I never did it in any city in the world and the first time I do it, it’s (via) a walkover.”
