Sherrone Moore’s Legal Battle Continues as Lawyer Challenges Charges
ANN ARBOR, Mich. — Sherrone Moore, the former University of Michigan football coach, is seeking to clear his name after being charged with home invasion and other offenses. His lawyer, Ellen Michaels, is actively pursuing the dismissal of these charges, asserting Moore’s innocence.
According to authorities, the incident in question occurred on December 10, when Moore allegedly entered a woman’s apartment, accused her of causing his employment termination, and threatened self-harm with butter knives and kitchen scissors. The university’s athletic director cited Moore’s personal relationship with the woman—who was a staff member—and dishonesty during the investigation as reasons for his dismissal.
In a recent court appearance, Michaels filed a motion to quash the arrest warrant. She maintained, “This warrant was issued based on false and misleading statements presented as facts,” and expressed confidence that the truth would emerge during court proceedings. She refrained from detailing the disputed statements, directing inquiries to a court filing not yet accessible.
Facing charges including felony home invasion and stalking, Moore, 39, has pleaded not guilty. He is currently out on bond with a tracking device. Standing beside Michaels outside the courthouse, Moore declined to comment, while his attorney emphasized the lack of probable cause without the contested statements.
Washtenaw County assistant prosecutor Kati Rezmierski, having just received Michaels’ court filing, participated in the hearing where Judge Cedric Simpson scheduled the next session for February 17. Rezmierski noted that the woman involved had cooperated with the university’s investigation after ending her relationship with Moore. During the proceedings, it was mentioned that Moore had allegedly told her, “My blood is on your hands.”
Moore, accompanied by his wife Kelli, awaited his case’s call in a nearby courtroom, with significant media presence at the hearing. Previously, Moore served as coach for the Wolverines, succeeding Jim Harbaugh, who transitioned to coach the NFL’s Los Angeles Chargers after a national championship victory.
Kyle Whittingham, a longtime coach at Utah, has been appointed as the new head coach at Michigan.
