Law License Suspended for Former Trump Lawyer Kenneth Chesebro

Kenneth Chesebro, previously part of former President Donald Trump’s legal team, has had his law license in New York suspended. This decision comes in the wake of his conviction for a felony related to his involvement in the 2020 election strategy concerning alternate electors.

As of Thursday, a panel from New York’s Appellate Division, the state’s mid-level appeals court, ruled that Chesebro cannot practice law in New York. This suspension follows his guilty plea in the Georgia election interference case, which involved Trump and several associates.

Chesebro admitted guilt to a felony charge of conspiracy to commit filing false documents. This plea allowed him to avoid being the first defendant to face trial over efforts to maintain Trump’s presidency post the 2020 election defeat in Georgia.

The former lawyer played a pivotal role in the controversial fake electors strategy, which aimed to replace legitimate electoral votes for Joe Biden with pro-Trump electors in key battleground states. These states included Georgia, Arizona, Michigan, Pennsylvania, New Mexico, Nevada, and Wisconsin. The plan relied on former Vice President Mike Pence to certify these alternate pro-Trump votes, a move he declined on January 6, 2021, ultimately preceding the Capitol riot.

After entering his plea, Chesebro has been drawn into ongoing investigations in Arizona and Nevada. He also faces additional charges in Wisconsin connected to the same scheme.
