Ongoing Conflict in Gaza Results in Civilian Casualties

DEIR AL-BALAH, Gaza Strip – A series of Israeli airstrikes in Gaza have led to the deaths of at least 19 Palestinians, primarily women and children, as reported by hospital officials by Wednesday afternoon. The Israeli military continues its operations in response to an attack by militants that left an Israeli soldier severely injured.

Hospital records indicate that the fatalities include five children, with the youngest being a 10-day-old infant and a 5-month-old baby, along with seven women and a paramedic. These incidents add to the escalating death toll in Gaza, where over 530 Palestinians have died since a ceasefire agreement was implemented on October 10, 2025, amid ongoing Israeli strikes (source).

The rising number of casualties has undermined the U.S.-backed ceasefire, leading many in Gaza to question the effectiveness of the truce. Dr. Mohamed Abu Selmiya, director of Gaza City’s Shifa Hospital, expressed frustration via Facebook, stating, “The genocidal war against our people in the Gaza Strip continues. Where is the ceasefire? Where are the mediators?”

According to an Israeli military official, who spoke anonymously in accordance with military protocol, the strikes will continue. The Israeli military justifies these actions as responses to Hamas-initiated attacks or other militant activities targeting Israeli soldiers. Since the ceasefire began, four Israeli soldiers have been killed.

Efforts by mediators to condemn the ongoing attacks have been met with accusations from Hamas, labeling these incidents as breaches of the ceasefire agreement.

On Wednesday morning, an Israeli attack in the Tuffah neighborhood of north Gaza resulted in at least 11 deaths, many from a single family. The deceased included two parents, their newborn daughter, a 5-month-old cousin, and their grandmother, as confirmed by Shifa Hospital.

In response to what Israel termed a militant-initiated violation of the ceasefire, Israeli military forces engaged with militants, leading to significant injuries to an Israeli reservist who was subsequently hospitalized.

Further clashes throughout Gaza have continued to claim lives. In Khan Younis, an Israeli strike on a family tent resulted in three deaths, among them a 12-year-old boy, as reported by Nasser hospital. Meanwhile, tank fire in Gaza City’s Zaytoun neighborhood led to the deaths of a married couple, as per Shifa Hospital records.

Additional reports from a field hospital operated by the Palestinian Red Crescent in Khan Younis indicate that at least two individuals were killed and five others injured in a tent strike in the Muwasi area. Among the deceased was Hussein Hassan Hussein al-Semieri, a paramedic on duty during the attack.

The Gaza health ministry, part of the Hamas-led government, states that over 71,800 Palestinians have been killed since the conflict began, though they do not distinguish between combatants and civilians. The ministry’s casualty data is generally regarded as credible by U.N. agencies and independent analysts.
