Execution of Two Islamic State Members in Iran
TEHRAN, Iran (AP) — Iranian state television announced on Tuesday the execution of two Islamic State members convicted of armed rebellion against the Islamic Republic.
The individuals were identified as Mohieddin Abdollahi and Hossein Palani. They were part of an Islamic State cell that emerged following the group’s territorial losses in Iraq and Syria, with plans to launch attacks within Iran.
Authorities managed to locate the cell’s hideout in the Bamo mountain area near the Iraqi border before any attacks could be executed. In a confrontation that ensued, several militants were killed, and others were captured. The operation also resulted in the deaths of three members of Iran’s Revolutionary Guard. During the raid, weapons, ammunition, and additional equipment were seized by the security forces.
After being convicted of armed rebellion, Abdollahi and Palani were hanged following the Supreme Court’s decision to uphold their death sentences. The location of the executions was not disclosed by the judiciary.
