Former Teacher in Drazan Campaign Faces Scrutiny Over Past Misconduct
A member of Christine Drazan’s campaign team, Kyle Bunch, has come under scrutiny following revelations about his past professional conduct. Bunch, who holds the position of Director of Coalitions and Grassroots Engagement, previously had his teaching license revoked due to inappropriate interactions with students. Although his license was later reinstated, the original findings remain unchanged.
According to Bunch’s LinkedIn profile, he taught biology and religion at Central Catholic High School in Portland, Oregon, during the 2011-2012 academic year before moving into the insurance sector.
A 2013 report from the Oregon Teacher Standards and Practices Commission (TSPC) detailed that Bunch violated professional boundaries. The investigation revealed instances where Bunch hired students for work at his home and engaged in sexually charged conversations with them, including sharing personal stories.
The TSPC document states that Bunch admitted there was enough evidence for license revocation, which was enacted as a disciplinary measure. His name was included in a 2014 KATU News report listing Oregon teachers dismissed for inappropriate sexual behavior, although he was not criminally charged.
There are indications that Bunch might be involved with the Teens for Drazan initiative. On October 2, a high school student volunteer publicly thanked Bunch for his assistance in attending a campaign event in Eugene.
Questions directed to the Drazan campaign regarding Bunch’s hiring and awareness of his past actions remain unanswered.
In April 2024, Bunch’s teaching license was reinstated under probationary conditions, following compliance with reinstatement requirements and participation in an interview with a commission investigator. However, the reinstatement did not challenge the original findings, and he was required to undergo training on maintaining teacher-student boundaries.
Bunch did not comment on these developments, but someone named Jack Bennington provided an April 2026 TSPC letter to Bunch, confirming the end of his probation. Bennington’s connection to the campaign or Bunch was not clarified.
Bunch’s professional challenges extended beyond education. His insurance agent license was suspended for three years in February 2026 after an investigation found he canceled client policies without consent, forged a signature, and admitted to these actions.
Christine Drazan, currently challenging incumbent Democratic Governor Tina Kotek, has criticized Kotek for her handling of sexual harassment issues. A recent poll by Oregonian/OregonLive indicates Kotek’s lead over Drazan is a narrow two points.
