The newly unveiled Bipartisan Infrastructure Law Rural Playbook is designed to assist rural communities in accessing the necessary funding to launch critical projects. These projects include expanding broadband services and improving transportation systems. Over the next five years, the law will channel more than $44 billion into rural transportation infrastructure.
Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg emphasized the importance of addressing the longstanding neglect of rural communities. “The fact that rural communities have been under-recognized and under resourced for years is something that we can and must do something about,” he stated during a visit to Tell City, Indiana. During this visit, he also discussed a $1.6 million grant intended to enhance the city’s port on the Ohio River. Read more about this on Route Fifty.
In a significant move, the law allocates $65 billion for broadband expansion initiatives. This funding aims to extend internet access to rural areas nationwide, thereby opening up new educational and business possibilities. Furthermore, the law will make substantial investments in ensuring access to potable water and basic sanitation, upgrading electricity infrastructure, and creating well-paying jobs.
