R&B Singer Akon Arrested for Court No-Show in Georgia
In a recent incident in suburban Atlanta, renowned hip-hop artist Akon, known legally as Aliaune Thiam, found himself in legal trouble. Authorities detained him for failing to appear in court to address a ticket related to driving with a suspended license.
According to police documentation, Akon was apprehended last Friday by Chamblee police, located just northeast of Atlanta. He was subsequently transferred to the DeKalb County jail before being handed over to Roswell police. Following his booking at another facility, Akon posted bail and was released on the same day.
Born in the United States to Senegalese parents, Akon gained fame in the R&B scene with his debut album in 2004. The Grammy-nominated artist has been featured in numerous Top 10 singles such as “Smack That,” “I Wanna Love You,” and “Locked Up.” Beyond music, he is actively involved in philanthropy in Africa, with childhood ties to Senegal.
Efforts to reach Akon’s representatives for comments were unsuccessful as of Wednesday.
Details from Roswell police reports reveal that Akon was located on September 10 inside a stalled Tesla Cybertruck on a busy street. A police officer, after calling for a tow truck, discovered through a license plate check that Akon lacked valid auto insurance and had a suspended driver’s license due to a missed court appearance in January 2023.
The vehicle was impounded, and Akon was cited for driving without a valid license. The officer confiscated the license he had with him and released him. Additionally, an “illegal vape” was found and seized during the incident.
Chamblee police informed local media that they responded to a business named Tint World after a traffic camera identified the Cybertruck linked to Akon’s outstanding warrant.
Despite these legal challenges, Akon is currently on tour in India. He performed in Delhi last Sunday, just two days following his arrest.
