False Claims Surround Janelle Stelson’s Campaign and Alleged Employment of Undocumented Immigrant

An erroneous assertion from the Trump White House has surfaced, alleging that Democrat Janelle Stelson’s campaign employed an undocumented immigrant accused of indecent exposure. This claim has been proven false.

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) released a statement on October 7, announcing the arrest of Chimaobim Adedayo Igbojekwe, a Nigerian citizen residing in Pennsylvania. The statement inaccurately described him as a “canvasser for congressional candidate Janelle Stelson.”

Federal law mandates that candidates for office disclose all individuals employed or paid by their campaigns. An examination of Stelson’s Federal Election Commission filings confirms that Igbojekwe’s name is absent from these records.

In response, Stelson’s campaign promptly clarified their position, denying any connection to Igbojekwe.

“This individual is not and has never been employed by the Janelle Stelson campaign,” asserted Alma Baker, the campaign manager. “If he is an illegal immigrant who committed a crime he should be deported. We never heard of him prior to the news of his arrest. We are grateful to law enforcement for acting swiftly to arrest him.”

The basis for the White House’s false claim remains unclear. Nonetheless, the assertion gained traction on social media platforms, propelled by far-right personalities like LibsOfTikTok and Benny Johnson.

The DHS press release cited “local reporting” as confirmation of Igbojekwe’s alleged ties to the Stelson campaign. However, this information is unfounded. The source referenced is Shore News Network, known for its conservative bias. The article from Shore News Network attributes the information to Scott Pressler, a far-right activist who lacks official or governmental authority.

Janelle Stelson is competing against Republican Rep. Scott Perry in Pennsylvania’s 10th District, a race recognized as one of the most fiercely contested congressional contests of 2026.
