Rudy Giuliani Faces Disbarment and Legal Challenges

Rudy Giuliani, former attorney to Donald Trump, has been disbarred in Washington, D.C., following a similar decision in New York. The decision is linked to his actions surrounding the 2020 presidential election. The D.C. Bar Court cited the New York state decision, which found Giuliani violated professional conduct rules in his efforts to overturn the election results. The New York and D.C. Bars have a reciprocal relationship allowing for shared disciplinary actions.

Despite having the chance to contest the D.C. disbarment, Giuliani did not present any evidence against the reciprocal discipline. He plans to appeal the decision in Washington, D.C.

Efforts to Overturn the 2020 Election

The recommendation for Giuliani’s disbarment was made by the D.C. Board of Professional Responsibility. It stemmed from his attempts in Pennsylvania to challenge the 2020 election results. Giuliani requested a federal judge to invalidate hundreds of thousands of ballots, even though he lacked “objectively reliable evidence” to support such claims, as stated by the board. More details can be found in the report by The Hill.

Legal Troubles in Arizona and Georgia

Giuliani’s legal issues extend beyond disbarment. He is facing criminal charges in Arizona and Georgia for his involvement in efforts to change the election outcome. Additionally, Giuliani filed for bankruptcy after a Georgia federal judge ordered him to pay $148 million in damages to two election workers he defamed. These workers were subjected to threats and harassment following the election, as they were falsely implicated in conspiracy theories propagated by Giuliani.
